How will God provide?
In 1998 we lost most of our assets...all we had built up
over a life time of living carefully and building assets for the future.
My husband was in Australia and we did not have enough money for the rest
of the family to join him (It was 8 months before we could). I was recovering
from a third car accident and resulting surgery. I was not well enough
to look after my children so my sister took two of them. I felt as though
I lost the person I had been as well as most of my talents and gifts.
That Christmas I thought we would not have this and we would not have
that thing as we always used to, but every time I thought "We won't have
that this year", someone came around and gave me that very thing...and
often bigger and better. A man from church gave us the wine and ham he
had been given. Christmas cake, Christmas lillies, chocolate and money
was given too. We lost so much but it seemed that because of that we ended
up with a testimony of the goodness of God to provide for us. I felt like Joseph. Our hardship forced us into a place of blessing, where we were able to earn enough
in the following 9 years to have a mortgage free home again and small
retirement fund. Although it limited some skills, it opened up a door for me to gain new skills in the area of IT, qualifications and software
that I would not otherwise have had.
In 2007 I was wondering about giving up teaching and
how God would provide if I did. Would he cause more of my books to sell
and provide that way....would He cause more of my Art to sell and provide
that way. A few days later I received an order for a class set of my book
"You Can Make A Web Site." This was the first order of a class set of
books and the biggest order I have had!
19th August 2007
I was asked by a colleague for my contribution to the following weeks
morning tea but I did not have any money on me. I told him how it was
my daughter's 21st the following weekend and the bathroom and laundry
renovations had eaten my cash. That day I worked late and had to buy lunch
($1.50 for soup) and on the way to the cafeteria I found $5 (that no-one
claimed) on the ground. I also got an email notification of an online
sale of one of my books. This was the first online book sale I had made
even though it had been online for some time...a year or more. So two
days later when the money was needed for the morning tea, I had it. That
weekend I had a luncheon to go to and as vice president of the group meeting,
I didn't think it appropriate that I miss it. I was wondering if I would
have enough to to pay for it. The sermon in church was about trusting
God to provide. When I got to the venue there was a notice saying that
lunch was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, but coffee and cakes
were available. We all bought a drink and some bought cakes, which was
at least 6 times cheaper than a meal would have cost! God had provided
again!
2011
Surely by now I should trust God perfectly! He has provided so well all my life.....but when my daughter came home to stay I wondered how we were going to pay for all the food we would need as my part time income was the only one.
Well it just so happened that this time she came home with so many bags of groceries we did not need to buy much the whole time she was with us. When she left even her friend came round and gave us a bag of groceries! It had just what we needed in it... including potatoes! For some weeks after that we continued to get free groceries and just the things I was thinking we needed...like butter for me and butter substitute for Peter! God is good!
